Little 11th Doctor (Doctor who)

This model of the 11th doctor from Doctor who is part of my 'little animals' collection, meaning that he will fit into all of the clothes designed for that range (and thus the clothes will also fit onto any of the animals in that collection too). A full list of everything this includes can be found here.

You will need:

• A 2.5mm crochet hook (use if no hook is specified)
• A 2mm crochet hook
• Dk yarn in cream and dark brown (the brown yarn must be synthetic to achieve the desired effect)
• 4ply yarn in white, red, black, and light brown
• five 5mm white buttons
• Embroidery thread in white, black, grey-blue, and dark grey
• Black sewing thread
• A darning needle
• An embroidery needle
• Toy stuffing
• A pet brush
• Hot water
• PVA glue
• Card

Note:

• 'sc12' means 'sc in each of the next 12sts'
• This pattern includes the back-to-front single crochet stitch (bfsc). A video to show you how to do this can be found here. It's pretty simple but if you can't work it out you can just use a regular single crochet stitch, but this will give it a slightly different look.

For the body (starting from the base):

With cream dk yarn make a magic loop with 6sc

Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)

Round 2: sc in first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (18sc)

Round 3: sc in first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (24sc)

For the nose:
with a 2mm hook and cream dk yarn make a magic lop with 1sc. ch1,turn

Row 2: make 2sc in each of these sts (4sc)

Sew this to the face above the chin, as shown below:

For the eyes:
First make indents where the eyes should be by making stitches through the head on either side of the nose and pulling them tight, so that the eye sockets are pulled back into the head.

After this embroider the eyes using 2 strands of white embroidery thread.
Embroider the iris using one strand of grey-blue embroidery thread, and outline it with darkish grey embroidery thread.
Use 1 strand of black embroidery thread to embroider the pupil in the centre of the iris, as shown below

For the right ear:
With a 2mm hook and cream dk yarn ch4
Row 1: make 2hdc in the 3rd loop from hook, sc in this same st, then make 2sc in the next chain st
Fasten off

For the left ear:
With a 2mm hook and cream dk yarn ch3
Row 1: make 2sc in the 2nd st from hook, sc in the next chain st, make 2hdc in this same st, sc2, slip this st
Fasten off


Sew these to the sides of the head.


For the hair:
Firstly cut a section of card around 7-8cm in width, and wrap the brown dk yarn around it many times to create a bundle. Cut each end of this bundle so that you are left with lots of strands of yarn around 7(ish)cm in length. 

The next step is to attach these lengths of yarn to the head. This should be done by folding each strand in half and pulling the folded end through a small stitch in the head, before threading the loose end through this small loop you make in order to secure it (if you're unsure what I mean you can watch this video, which will hopefully clarify it).

Start attaching the hair a little to the right of the centre  of the head(looking at it face on). Attach it down this line, and to the left of this line, so that it can be folded over to create the style of the hair.

Continue adding hair to the left of the parting, trying to cover the head. The hair around the back and sides of the head should be trimmed shorter after you have added it. You will also need to add hair to the right of the parting, but make sure this hair is a lot shorter that the hair to the left, as shown below.

Once you are reasonably happy with the length and positioning of the hair, get the pet brush and use it to brush the yarn of the hair until it is smooth (or as smooth as you can get it)

Next you should prepare a bowl of boiled water and place the hair into it to reduce the frizziness. After you take the head out of the water, try to shape the hair. You may also need to trim it if you find it is too long.

After this is done place the head in a warm place until it is dry.

The only thing remaining to complete the body is to sew the head to the neck.

For the trousers:

For the trouser legs (make 2):

with black 4ply yarn and a 2mm crochet hook ch20

Round 1: sc in the first chain st, sc in every following chain st (this will create a loop)

Rounds 2 - 9: (8 rounds) sc in each st (20sc)

Fasten off neatly 

Rejoin yarn to one of the sts on this trouser leg you made

Round 10: sc in this st and the next 15sts of this trouser leg, then sc in 16 sts around the egde of the other trouser section (32sc)

Rounds 11 - 18: (8 rounds) sc in each of these 32 sts

Fasten off

Sew up the crotch of these trousers

For the shirt:
With white 4ply yarn and a 2mm hook ch33
Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, sc in every following chain st. ch1, turn (32sc)

Row 2: Sc in the outer loop of this st and the next 5 sts. In the outer loops of the following sts: make 2sc in the first st, sc, make 2sc in the following st, sc8, make 2sc in the next st, sc, make 2sc in the following st, sc6. ch1, turn (30sts)

Tie this around the neck. You may want to sew it in place if you do not intend to undress your doll.


For the fez:
Make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: make 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: (sc in the first st, make 2sc in the next st) 6 times (18sc)
Round 3: (sc6, make 2sc in the next st) 3 times (21sc)
Fasten off neatly
rejoin to the back loop of one of these sts
Round 4: sc in the back loop of each st
Round 5: sc in each st
Round 6: (sc7, make 2sc in the next st) 6 times (24sc)
Rounds 7 - 8: (2 rounds) sc in each st
Round 9: (sc8, make 2sc in the next st) 6 times (27sc)
Round 10: sc in each st
Fasten off neatly

For the tassel:
wind a length of black sewing thread around a small section of card (around 2cm wide) to get a thick loop of thread. Remove this from the card. Cut another length of sewing cotton and tie this around the loop to hold all of the threads in place, then cut the loop opposite where you have seccured it (as shown below)

Take another length of thread, and sew it carefully around your tassel so that the strands stay together and don't stick out at odd angles (as shown below)

In order to seccure your tassel to the fez, sew a small length of black 4ply yarn to the top of the fez. 

Add a dab of PVA glue to the other end of this length and leave it  to dry. Then sew the end of the tassel to this glued end of the length of yarn (the glue is there to stop it fraying)

Finally sew the fez to the head of your Doctor.
