black dress and pendant for dress me bunny

This is another outfit made to fit the dress me bunny by Sharon Ojala (amigurumi to go) The dress is similar to the spring time dress, but I've created a different neckline and sleeves.

You will need:

• A dress me bunny (pattern found here) made using dk yarn and a 2.5mmm or 3mm crochet hook
• Dk yarn in black and white
• The same crochet hook you used for the bunny
• A 0.6mm crochet hook
• Regular sewing cotton in grey/silver and blue

For the dress:
Make the springtime dress from the pattern found here using the same sized hook as you used for the bunny. Use black for the main part of the dress and white for the last row. Don't make any sleeves and instead of (at the beginning) doing ch29 and then crocheting in the 2nd st from the hook and every other stitch, just fsc 28

Attach white yarn to the top of the dress.
Row 1: sc into the middle of each fsc stitch. ch1, turn(28sc)
Row 2: slip the first 4sts, ch8, skip the next 5 sts, slip the next st, sc in the next 8sts, slip the next st, ch8, skip the next 5 sts, sc in the last 4sts. ch1, turn
Fasten off

Rejoin the yarn to the start of the nearest shoulder strap (the chain 8)
Row 3: sc in the first 8sts, slip the next 2sts, sc in the next 2sts, slip the next 2sts, sc in the next 2sts, slip the next 2 sts, sc in the next 8 sts.
Rows 4-6: (3 rows)ch1, turn. sc in the first 8sts (8sc)
fasten off

Rejoin yarn to the start of the other strap
Rows 4-6: (3 rows) ch1, turn. sc in the first 8sts (8sc)
Fasten off

These last sections of 3 rows form the sleeves. Sew the side edges of these sleeves onto the edges of the shoulder straps so that the sleeves curve over.



For the pendant:
With the blue sewing cotton and a 0.6mm crochet hook make a magic loop with 4sc
Round 1: sc in each st (4sc)
Round 2: 2sc in each st (8sc)
Round 3: sc in each st (8sc)
Round 4: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st
Round 5: sc in each st  (12sc)
Round 6: sc in the first 2sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (16sc)
Round 7: sc in each st (16sc)
Round 8: sc in the first 3sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (20sc)
Round 9: skip the first 10sts, sc in the next 10sts. (10sc)
Round 10: sc2tog around these last 10sts that you crocheted into.(5sc)
fasten off

rejoin yarn to round 8
Round 9: sc in the first 10sts (the remaining stitches you haven't crocheted into yet)
Round 10: sc2tog around these last 10sts
Fasten off

Sew up the tops to the heart and thread a length of thread through the centre top, and then you've finished your bunny :)

Sherlock puppet

Before you make this puppet please be aware that Sherlock is copyrighted by the BBC so you're not supposed to sell any finished products, however you can make as many as you want for personal use or for presents etc. Sorry!

You don't have to make Sherlock into a puppet if you don't want to - just don't add any strings at the end

• 2.5mm crochet hook
• 2mm crochet hook
• 4ply yarn in white
• dk yarn in peach, black, dark brown and blue
• a small amount of dark red yarn, preferably 4ply but dk will work as well
• white sewing thread (only for the puppet)
• A darning needle
• A regular sewing needle (only for the puppet)
• 2 kebab sticks or something similar (only for the puppet)
• 1 small black button
• 6 small white buttons
• scissors

For the body:

Use peach dk yarn and a 2.5mm hook

For the feet/legs (make 2):

Make a magic loop with 6sc

Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep  to end (18sc)

sew the legs to the bottom of the body and the arms to the sides, making sure the arms are directly underneath the neck and the same have roughly the same number of stitches in front of them as behind.

For the hair:
Using a 2.5mm hook and brown dk yarn crochet a large shape. Wet this and leave it to dry, the unravel it. This means that the hair is curly.
Attach the hair to the head. This is done like most amigurumi hair, by folding each strand in half, pulling the loop made through a stitch on the head, and then threading the two ends of the yarn through this loop. (If you are still unsure you can watch this video)

Start by doing the edge of the hairline, and slowly add in more. Add and remove hair until you are happy with how your Sherlock looks. It helps to refer to images whilst doing this.

For the shirt:

Use a 2mm hook and white 4ply yarn

Row 2: sc in the first st, ch1, skip the st at base of chain, sc in each st to end. ch1, turn

Sew the sleeves to the armholes and attach the white buttons, making sure they line up with the buttonhole.

For the trousers:

use black dk yarn and a 2.5mm hook

For the pockets (make 2):

For the pocket flap (make 2):

For the side pocket:

Sew the sleeves onto the jacket and then sew a pocket and pocket flap onto both sides of the coat and a side pocket onto one side, as shown below:


Next use the dark red yarn to sew a few stitches onto the coat for the buttonhole




Finally sew two eyes onto the head using black dk yarn.

You can just keep Sherlock as a soft toy if you want, and if you choose to do this you don't need the reminder of the pattern, but if you want to make a puppet out of him, follow the next steps.

For the strings:
Firstly cut off the sharp ends of the skewers, either with scissors (though this is quite tough and may ruin your scissors) or with pliers

Next you need to sew a piece of white sewing thread (at least 60cm long) to the top of the head, each arm and each leg. Make sure they're secure and aren't going to come lose.

You then need to tie these threads onto the barbecue skewers. Firstly tie both of the threads coming from the feet onto one of the skewers, making sure that the thread hangs in a straight line when you hold the skewer up . Then you need to tie the threads from the arms onto the other skewer, but make sure that they aren't too long. When you hold the puppet up with both of the sticks the strings should be reasonably taut.




 After you've attached the arms and legs, you will need to tie the thread coming from the head onto one of the skewers. You can either tie it onto the one with the legs or with the arms. Personally  attached it to the skewer that held the legs, but this was because I wanted to be able to move the arms around a lot. Whichever skewer you decide to attach it to will restrict the movement in that area of the body.

Finally you need to secure the ends of the thread that you have tied to the skewer by using a glue gun to glue them down. This is optional but I find it helps a lot, especially if you are going to be using the puppets regularly.
