Police bear

This UK police outfit is designed to fit any of my Little Animals (a full round-up can be found here)
It is possible that this jacket will not fit your little bear entirely, due to slight variations in tension and yarn weights of different brands in which case you may need to leave the jacket open. If you would like me to make a pattern for a slightly bigger jacket to allow it to fasten properly, please comment below or on my ravelry page and I will do it as soon as possible.  

Difficulty:

easy - medium

You will need:

• an animal to put the outfit on; the pattern for the bear can be found here. (You may want to refrain from adding the arms until you've made the jacket, so that you can be sure that they are in exactly the right place)
• a 2mm crochet hook
• a 1.5mm crochet hook
• 4ply yarn in black, white and silvery-grey
• a darning needle to sew up
• Two or three small snap fasteners (I used 6mm ones)(optional)

For the vest:

with a 2mm crochet hook and black 4ply yarn fsc 24

Row 1: sc in first 12 sts, sc2tog, sc in the last 10 sts. ch1, turn (23sc)

Row 2: sc in the first 9 sts, sc2tog, sc im the last 11 sts. ch1, turn (21sc)

Rows 3 - 5:(3 rows) sc in each st. ch1, turn

Row 6: sc in the first 6 sts. ch1, turn

Row 7: skip the first st, sc in the last 5 sts to end (5sc)

Row 8: slip the first 2 sts, sc in the next 3sts to end (3sc)

Row 9: sc in the first st, sc2tog (2sc)

Rows 10 - 11:(2 rows) sc in each st

Fasten off

Rejoin yarn to the opposite side of the long rectangular bit, to the 5th st from the end (as shown below)

Row 6: sc in the same st and the remaining 4 sts of the row. ch1, turn

Row 7: skip the first st, sc in the next 4sts. ch1, turn (4sc)

Row 8: sc in the next 3sts. ch1, turn (3sc)

Row 9: sc2tog, sc in the next st. ch1, turn (2sc)

Rows 10 - 11:(2 rows) sc in each st

Fasten off

next rejoin yarn to the 3rd st after this section

Rows 6 - 7:(2 rows)sc in this st and the next 5 sts (6sc)
Rows 8 - 9:(2 rows) sc in the first 2sts
Fasten off
rejoin yarn to the 3rd st after this section.

Row 8: sc in this st and the next st. ch1, turn.
Row 9 : sc in each of these 2 sts
Fasten off


After you've done this sew the upper sections of the jacket together to form armholes


Next sew two or three small snap fasteners onto the front of the jacket to keep it closed. This is optional and if your bear is slightly too large it may not be possible to do this.

Use white thread to sew checks onto the front sections of each arm strap.

For the hat:

with a 2mm crochet hook and black 4ply yarn make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)

Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (18sc)

Rounds 3 - 7: (5 rounds) sc in each st

Round 8: (sc in the front loop of each st)

Round 9: (sc in the first 2 sts; 2sc in the next st) 5 times, dc, tc, dc, sc in the same st, slip the next st.
Fasten off

For the front bit:

with a 1.5 mm crochet hook and silver 4ply yarn make a magic loop with 8sc

Round 1: 2sc in each st (16sc)

Round 2: (slip 1, ch1, dc, ch1) rep 7 times, slip the next st

With silver fsc3

ch7, slip the middle fsc stitch, slip the next st, ch5, slip the 3rd chain up from the middle stitch, ch2, slip the same st

Fasten off

The second bit you make should look sort of like this

with black 4ply yarn ch12 tightly, then sew then ends together and sew it into the centre of the star shaped silver piece.

Finally sew both silver pieces onto he front of the hat, with the crown shaped piece situated directly above the star shaped piece.

little monkey

This pattern is based part of the little animals collection, so it has the same head/body, legs and arms as all of my other little animals, and thus will fit into all of the clothes made for these animals (patterns can be found here)

• 2.5mm crochet hook
• dk yarn in dark brown, light brown and black
• craft wire roughly 0.5mm in diameter or a brown pipe-cleaner (optional)

For the head and body (starting from the base):

Make a magic loop with 6sc

Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)

Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep  to end (18sc)

Round 3: sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end. ch1, turn (24sc)

Rounds 4 - 8: (5 rounds) sc in each st (24sc)

Round 9: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (18sc)

Round 10: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (12sc)

stuff the legs and sew then to the undetside of the body, then lightly stuff the hand section of the arms and sew them to the shoulders of the monkey

For the muzzle:

with light brown yarn ch3

round 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from the hook, 3sc in the next chain st, 2sc in the back I the first st you crocheted into (6sc)

Round 2: 2sc in each st (12sc)

Round 2: sc in each st (12sc)

For the eye patches (make 2):

with light brown yarn ch4

sc in the 2nd chain st from the hook, sc in the next st, 3sc in the next st, sc in the backs of the first 2 are you crocheted into. ch1, turn (5sc)

sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next 3 sts, 2sc in the last 2 sts to end (8sc)

Fasten off

sew both of the eye patches together along the flat part of the side, then sew them both to the top of the muzzle piece, as shown below.

After you've done this sew these facial features onto the face of your monkey.

For the ears (make 2):

with light brown make a magic loop with 6sc

Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)

Rounds 2-3:(2 rounds)sc in each st (12sc)

regarding how to do the face

sew the ears to the sides of the head, and then embroider the facial features onto the monkey using black yarn.

If you want to use a pipecleaner to strengthen your tail, make the tail exactly as below, and then feed a brown pipe-cleaner in afterwards.

If you plan to use wire, however, you will need to feed the wire around in a loop as you crochet, crocheting over it to hide it, as shown below.
Adding something to strengthen your tail will enable it to hold its shape, but this isn't necessary, and I wouldn't advise to do this if you are planning to give this toy to a young child or baby

 

For the tail:

woth dark brown yarn make a magic loop with 6sc

Rounds 1 - 22: (22 rounds) sc in each st (6sc)

Fasten off

Finally sew the tail to the back of the monkey

little devil

 

This follows the same basic pattern as all of my other Little Animals, with a few extra bits added on, meaning that it should fit into all of the clothes I've made for that range (patterns can be found here)

• toy stuffing
• a darning needle for sewing up
• dk yarn in red, black and either cream or yellow, depending on what colour you want the horns to be (these could also be done in red, in which case this third colour will not be needed)
• a regular needle and sewing thread (optional)

 

For the head and body (starting from the base):

With red make a magic loop with 6sc

Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)

Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep  to end (18sc)

For the trident:
Make a magic loop with 5sc
Rounds 1-18: (18 rounds) sc in each st (5sc)
Round 19: 3sc in the first st, sc in the next st, 2sc in the following 2 sts, sc in the last st (9sc)
Round 20: sc in the first st, 3sc in the next st, sc in the following 3 sts, 2sc in the next 2 sts, sc in the last 2 sts (13sc)
Round 21: sc in the first 4 sts, ch1, make a slip stitch in the 10th st around from the base of the chain

Round 22: sc in the next 4 sts, then sc in the chain stitch. These four stitches form a new round that will become one of the spikes of the trident. (5sc)
Rounds 23 - 24: sc in each of these 5 sts around (5sc)
Round 25: sc2tog, sc in the next st, 2sctog (3sc)
Fasten off
 
Rejoin yarn to the 3rd stitch from the base of this spike.

Round 21 :sc in the same st and the next 4 sts, ch1,
Round 22: sc into the first st of the last row, where you rejoined the yarn, then sc in the next 3sts and following chain st (5sc)
Rounds 23 - 24: sc in each st (5sc)
Round 25: sc2tog, sc in the next st, sc2tog (3sc)
Fasten off
 
You will now have 2 spikes with a few stitches in between: 3 at the back and 2 at the front.
Rejoin the yarn to the first front stitch.

Round 21: sc in this st and the next st, then sc into each of the three back stitches in turn and make a slip stitch in the front stitch (the one you crocheted into first). This should leave you with a loop of 5 sts in between the 2 spikes you have already made
Rounds 22 - 24: sc in each of these 5 sts (5sc)
Round 25: sc2tog, sc in the next st, sc2tog (3sc)
Fasten off
 
To make up:
1. stuff the legs and sew them to the base of the body
2. stuff the hands of the arms and sew them to the sides of the body just underneath the head
3. sew the tail to the back of the body
4. sedw the ears to the sides of the face, then sew the horns on top of the head in between them and the nose to the middle of the face
5. use black yarn to embroider eyes and a mouth onto your devil
6. Sew up the tops of the spikes on the trident, as well as the small gaps in between the base of each spike. Next carefully stitch this to the hand of the devil. I used a regular needle and sewing thread for this to make it less visible, but this isn't necessary, and you can use left-over yarn if you prefer.

Thomas the tank engine James hat

Difficulty:

Easy - Medium

You will need:

• dk yarn in black, white and grey
• aran/ worsted weight yarn in red
• a 5mm crochet hook
• a 3mm crochet hook
• A darning needle for sewing up
• 25cm of red fleece (optional)

For the hat:
Using the pattern from the giraffe hat by Repeat Crafter Me make the hat in red.

For the face:
With grey make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (18sc)
Round 3: sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (24sc)
Round 4: sc in the first 3 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (30sc)
Round 5: sc in the first 4 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (36sc)
Round 6: sc in the first 5 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (42sc)
Round 7: sc in the first 6 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (48sc)
Round 8: sc in the first 7 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (54sc)
Join with a ss and fasten off

Join black dk yarn and sc in each st, then make slip stitches into the holes you just crocheted into. Fasten off



For the nose:
With grey dk yarn make a magic loop with 6sc

Join with a ss and fasten off

Sew the nose into the centre of the face

For the eyes (Make 2):
With white dk yarn and a 3mm hook make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
join with a ss and fasten off

With black dk yarn make a magic loop with 6sc
Join with a ss and fasten off

Sew the black section onto the white section, then use white thread to sew a few stitches onto the black section, as shown below.

Then sew the eyes onto the face above and either side of the nose.

Eyebrows (make 2):
ch6
sc in 2nd st from hook
sc in the next st, then slip the next st
Fasten off

Sew the eyebrows on above the eyes with the larger section in the middle.

For the mouth:
ch6
Fasten off

Sew the mouth onto the face below the nose, curving it upwards slightly at the edges.



For the buffers:
Make a magic loop with 6sc
2sc in each st
Mak a ss and fasten off

Sew these onto the hat near to the bottom, as shown below.

For the black rectangular bit:
fsc16
(11 rows) ch1, turn, sc in each st
Fasten off

Sew this onto the hat just above the buffers (with the cast on edge on the bottom)



After you've seen this on sew the face on above it, so that the lowest 1/3 of the face is overlapping the black section.

For the funnel:
fsc8
ch1, turn. sc2tog, sc in the next 4 sts, sc2tog (6sc)
(3 rows) ch1, turn. sc in each st
ch1, turn. sc in each st then fsc 6 and make a slip stitch into the first stitch of this row (12sts)
(7 rounds) ch1, turn, sc into each st, make a slip stitch into the first stitch of the round (12sts)
Fasten off

For the top of the funnel:
With black make a magic loop with 6sc
2sc in each st
make a ss and fasten off

Sew this section onto the top of the funnel so that you are left with a sort of tube with the top covered over.
Stuff the upper section of the funnel

For the lip of the funnel:
fsc 16

Sew this onto the funnel about 1/5 of the way down. Sew it on sideways so that it is quite thin but sticks out a lot (as shown below)

Next see the whole funnel into the hat above the face, so that the bottom of the funnel touches the top of the face and the 3D section sticks out of the top of the hat.



For the number 5 (make 2):
ch24
sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next 3 chain sts, 3sc in the next chain st, sc in the next 3 ch sts, 3sc in the next ch st, sc in the next 2 ch sts, (sc2tog, sc in the next ch st) 3 times, sc in the last 3 sts.
Fasten off


Sew these on either side of the hat

For the fleece lining (optional):
lay out the hat onto a folded piece of fleece and cut roughly around it.

You will end up with two roughly semi-circular pieces of fleece

Pin the fleece inside the hat with the side you want to be on the inside on the outside. Start pinning from the edge of the hat and continue up inside the hat.
After you've done this, pin together the excess fleece fabric as close to crocheted hat as possible, so that they are in the position that you want stitching to be when you sew it.

Remove all of the pins except the ones you used to pin the excess fleece together, then use a sewing machine to sew over the place where the pins are, so that you have a singular hat-shaped fleece piece

Places this fleece lining inside the hat so that the seam is on the inside ( and so is hidden from view)and pin around the bottom of the hat, pinning the fleece to the crocheted section. You may want to try the hat on someone to pin it.

Next sew around where you've just pinned (you may want to tack it first if you're worried that it might slip.)

After you've done this cut the excess felt off neatly.

Finally neaten the ends to the flaps by adding the toggles to it

This pattern is based partly on the little animals collection, so it has the same head/body, legs and arms as all of my other little animals.

This pattern has 2 different shells you can make. The first is one colour and is quite simple, and the second one involves different coloured patches and id a bit more complicated.

To make up:

1. sew the arms to the body either side of the head

2. sew the legs to the underside of the body.

3. Sew the tail to the back of the body near the bottom. If you are planning to make some clothes for this tortoise to wear (a full list of all of the clothes made to fit this tortoise can be found here) you may want to make the clothes first and attach the tail in the tail hole of the clothes, to ensure that it's in the right place.

4. embroider facial features onto your tortoise using black dk yarn. You may wish to try and replicate the features I've put on my tortoise, or alter them to suit your desired look. (note - I have squashed the head down a bit to make the face look more rounded)

5. Sew the eyebrows directly above the eyes#

For the main part of the basic shell:
with brown chain 4
Round 1: sc in the second chain st and the next one, 3 as in the last chain st, then sc in the other side of the second chain st you made, then 2sc in the other side of the third chain st you made (the first one you crocheted into) (10sc)
Round 2: 2sc in the first st, sc in the next st, 2sc in the next 3 sts, sc in the next st, 2sc in the last 2 sts
Round 3: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, sc in the next st, (sc in the next st, 2sc in the following st) 3 times, sc in the next st, (sc in the next st, 2sc in the following st) twice more to end (14sc)

Round 5: sc in the first 3 sts, 2sc in the next st, sc in the next st, (sc in the next 3 sts, 2sc in the following st) 3 times, sc in the next st, (sc in the next 3 sts, 2sc in the following st) twice more to end (26sc)

Sew the two sides of the shell together and stuff. Sew the edges together using backstitching or running stitch around the edge so that the edges stick out (as shown below)





For the main section of the colourful shell:

For each shell section (make 6 in different colours):
make a magic loop with 5sc, slip in the first sc you made, ch1
Round 1: 2sc in each st, slip in the first sc of this round (10sc)
Fasten off

For the base of the colourful shell:
With brown make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: (sc in the first st, 2sc in the next 2 sts) four times to end (20sc)
Fasten off

To join them together:
place each shell section together with right sides facing and sc through both edge stitches to join them together. Do this on two stitches on each shell piece to join them all together in a sort of flower-like shape, as shown below*
Next sc around the bottom edge of these pieces; making 4 sc stitches on each of the outer 5 shell pieces, so that you have 20 sc stitches around the edge I the shell.
After you've done this, make slip stitches in the loops that come through in the right side. Do this first in a loop around the middle shell piece, then make slip stitches up the side to join them to the centre loop of slip stitches, as shown below *
Place the bottom of the shell into the top part of the shell (the colourful bit) so that the stitches around the she line up. Then -stitching through a stitch on both pieces at the same time - (sc in the first 3sts, 2sc in the next st) to end (25sc)
Fasten off

After you have crocheted all of the outer pieces to the inner one, the right side of the shell will look like this

You must then crochet each outer piece to the neighbouring one, again with right sides facing

this is what the right side will look like after all of the pieces are crocheted together

slip stitch around the edge of the shell pieces using the loops as a base.

slip around the centre piece first then make slip stitched up the sides to finish off

you will end up with a hollow shell after crocheting around the bottom edge of the pieces





crochet around the edge to attach the bottom section to the top

After you've made the shells, you can either sew then straight onto the back of the tortoise, or you can make them into a rucksack by adding straps.

For the straps(make 2):
fsc1,
Rows 1-13: (13 rows) ch1, turn. sc in each st (1sc)

Fasten off

Sew the straps onto the flat edge shell, making sure that they stick out enough and are far enough apart to be able to fit onto the turtle's back.
