Little badger


This badger is another in my little animals collection, found here (although the head is a different shape). This means that many of the clothes made for those animals will also fit this badger.

You will need:

  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • dk yarn in black, brown, white nad grey
  • Embroidery thread in black and white
  • Toy stuffing
  • A darning needle (or similar)
  • An embroidery needle


Difficulty:
Easy


For the body :
With grey make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep  to end (18sc)
Round 3: sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end(24sc)
Rounds 4 - 9: (6 rounds) sc in each st (24sc)
Round 10: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (18sc)
Round 11: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (12sc)
Round 12: sc2tog six times to end (6sc)
Fasten off

For the arms (make 2):
With black make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (9sc)
Rounds 2 - 3: (2 rounds) sc in each st (9sc)
Round 4: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (6sc)

Round 5: sc in each st
Fasten off black yarn and fasten on grey yarn.
Rounds 6 - 9: (4 rounds) sc in each st (6sc)
Fasten off
Lightly stuff these arms and sew them to the sides of the body

For the legs (make 2):

With black make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first 3 sts, 2cs in the next st, rep to end (15sc)
Rounds 3- 4: (2 rounds) sc in each st (15sc)
Round 5: sc2tog 3 times, sc in the last 9 sts (12sc)
Round 6: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (9sc)

Fasten off. Fasten on in grey yarn
Rounds 7 - 10: (4 rounds) sc in each st (9sc)
Fasten off

Stuff the legs and sew them to the underside of the body



For the tail:
With white yarn make a magic loop with 4sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (8sc)
Rounds 2 - 3: (2 rounds) sc in each st
Round 4:(ch1, hdc, ch1, slip 1) four times
Fasten off

With grey make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1:(sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st) 3 times (9sc)
Rounds 2 - 6: (5 rounds) sc in each st
Round 7: (sc in the first st, sc2tog) 3 times (6sc)
Fasten off

Stuff these sections and sew the white section onto the end of the grey section. Sew this tail to the body


For the head:
With dark brown make a magic loop with 6sc
Fasten off and change to white
Round 1: (sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st) 3 times (9sc)
Round 2: (sc in the first st, sc2tog) 3 times (6sc)
Round 3: (sc in the first 2sts, 2sc in the next st) twice (8sc)
Round 4: (sc in the first 3sts, 2sc in the next st) twice(10sc)
Round 5: (sc in the first 4sts, 2sc in the next st) twice(12sc)
Round 6: (sc in the first 5sts, 2sc in the next st) twice(14sc)
Round 7: (sc in the first 6sts, 2sc in the next st) twice(16sc)
Round 8: (sc in the first 7sts, 2sc in the next st) twice(18sc)
Round 9: (sc in the first 8sts, 2sc in the next st) twice(20sc)
Round 10: (sc in the first 9sts, 2sc in the next st) twice (22sc)
Rounds 11 - 14: (4 rounds) sc in each st
Fasten off then fasten on in grey
Round 15: (sc in the first st, sc2tog, sc in the next 2sts, sc2tog) 3 times, sc in the last st (16sc)
Round 16: (sc2tog, sc in the next st, sc2tog) 3 times, sc in the last st(10sc)
Stuff
Round 17: sc2tog five times (5sc)
Fasten off
Sew this to the body

For the head stripes:
With black ch15
Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, sc in the next 13 chain sts, turn(14sc)
Row 2: slip the first 7sts, sc in the next 7sts
Fasten off

With black ch15
Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, sc in the next 13 chain sts. ch1, turn(14sc)
Row 2: sc in the first 7sts, slip the next 7sts
Fasten off

Sew these to the head


For the ears (Make 2):
with black make a magic loop with 2sc
Fasten off

With white make a magic loop with 3sc
Fasten off

Sew the black section to the front of the white section then sew both of these to the head above the stripes.


For the eyes:
Embroider the eyes to the head using black embroidery thread, then add highlights with 2 strands of white embroidery thread.
