Little cow


This cow is part of my little animals collection (found here), so should fit into most of the clothes designed for those animals.


Difficulty:




Easy - medium (a little fiddly but nothing too challenging crochet-wise)



You will need: 


  • dk yarn in black, white and light pink
  • a 2.5mm crochet hook
  • A darning needle (or similar)
  • Toy stuffing





For the body :
With grey make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep  to end (18sc)
Round 3: sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end(24sc)
Rounds 4 - 9: (6 rounds) sc in each st (24sc)
Round 10: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (18sc)
Round 11: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (12sc)

Round 12: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (8sc)
Round 13 - 15: (3 rounds) sc in each st 
Fasten off
Stuff

For the head:
With grey make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (18sc)
Rounds 3 - 5: (3 rounds) sc in each st
Round 6: sc2tog three times, sc in the next 3sts, sc3tog 3 times, sc in the last 3sts (12sc)
Round 7: 2sc in each of the first 3sts, sc in the next 3sts, 2sc in each of the following 3sts, sc in the last 3sts (18sc)
Rounds 8 - 9: (2 rounds) sc in each st
Round 9: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (12sc)
Round 10: sc2tog six times to end (6sc)
Fasten off

For the arms (make 2):
With black make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (9sc)
Rounds 2 - 3: (2 rounds) sc in each st (9sc)

Round 4: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (6sc)
Round 5: sc in each st
Fasten off black yarn and fasten on grey yarn.
Rounds 6 - 9: (4 rounds) sc in each st (6sc)
Fasten off
Lightly stuff these arms and sew them to the sides of the body

For the legs (make 2):

With black make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the first 3 sts, 2cs in the next st, rep to end (15sc)
Rounds 3- 4: (2 rounds) sc in each st (15sc)
Round 5: sc2tog 3 times, sc in the last 9 sts (12sc)
Round 6: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (9sc)

Fasten off. Fasten on in grey yarn
Rounds 7 - 10: (4 rounds) sc in each st (9sc)
Fasten off
Stuff the legs and sew them to the underside of the body

For the muzzle:

With pink dk yarn ch3
Round 1: sc in the 2nd loop from hook, make 3sc in the first chain st you made, then make 2sc in the back of the first chain st you crocheted into (6sc)
Round 2: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Fasten off
Add nostrils with black yarn then embroidery the muzzle onto the front of the head/face (Over where you fastened off)



For the spots (make 2 of each kind):
With black ch4
Round 1: sc in the 2nd loop from hook, slip the next chain st (the second chain st you made), make 3sc in the first chain st you made, make a slip stitch into the back of the second chain st you made, then make 2sc into the back of the first chain st you crocheted into. Slip the first st of this round
Fasten off

Make a magic loop with 3sc. Don't join.
Fasten off

Make a magic loop with 6sc, then join with a slip stitch in the first stitch you made.
Fasten off

Sew these spots to the back of the body, so that a few of them overlap onto the front, legs or arms of your animal.


For the head patches (make 2):
Ch6
Round 1: sc in the 2nd loop from hook, sc in the next 3 chain sts, then make 3sc into the last chain st (the first one you made). Next sc into the backs of each of the three previous stitches you crocheted into in turn, then make 2sc into the back of the first st you crocheted into. (16sc)
Round 2: 2sc in the first st, sc in the next 3sts, 2sc in each of the following 3sts, sc in the next 3sts, 2sc in each of the last 2sts (22sc)
Sew these to the sides of the head

For the ears (make 2):
With black make a magic loop with 3sc. Ch1, turn
Row 1: sc in each st, ch1, turn (3sc)
Row 2: sc3tog
Fasten off

Sew these to the head over the top of the head patches

For the udders:
With pink dk yarn
ch2
Round1: sc in the 2nd loop from hook, 3sc in the next loop (the first chain st you made), then make 2sc in the back of the first st you crocheted into
Round 2: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 3: sc in each st
Fasten off

For the teats (make 4):
Make a magic loop with 4sc
Join with a slip stitch in the first st you made.
Fasten off
Sew these to the main body of the udders, then stuff and sew the udders to the belly of the cow


For the tail:
With white ch7
Fasten off

sew a few small lengths of black yarn to the end of the tail, then sew the other end to the body of your cow.
