Guitar for little animals


This guitar is designed to be approximately to scale for any of the animals in my little animals collection, a full list of which can be found here.



Difficulty:

easy - medium


You will need:
  • 4ply yarn in yellow and black 
  • A 2mm crochet hook
  • A small section of cardboard or plastic
  • A short length of craft wire
  • A darning needle and a regular sewing needle
  • White sewing cotton

For the body of the guitar (make 2):
With yellow ch9
Round 1: sc in the 2nd st from hook, hen sc in each of the  next 6 chain sts. Make 3sc in the back of the last chain st, then sc in the back loop of each of the previous 6 chain sts you crocheted into in turn. Finally make 2sc into the back of the first chain st you crocheted into (18sc)
Round 2: make 2sc in the first st, sc, slip1, sc4, make 2sc into each of the next 3 sts, sc4, slip1, sc, then make 2sc into each of the last 2sts. (24sts)
Round 3: make 2hdc in the first st, hdc, sc, slip2, sc, hdc2, make 2hdc in the following st, hdc4, make 2hdc in the next st, hdc2, sc, slip2, sc, hdc4 (27sts)
Round 4: sc, make 2sc in the next st, sc, slip3, sc2, hdc3, make 2sc in the following st, sc3, make 2sc in the next st, hdc3, sc2, slip3, sc, make 2sc in the following st, sc (31sts)
Fasten off neatly

Trace around this section onto a piece of cardboard or plastic and cut it out

Round 5 (do this on the first main section you make only): Rejoin yarn to a stitch of this section and slip each st. Fasten off neatly. Rejoin yarn to one of the sts of round 4 and sc in the back loop of each of the sts of this round (the same sts that you just slipped)
Fasten off neatly

Sew these 2 sections together with the cardboard/ plastic sandwiched
in between.

For the neck of the guitar:
With yellow ch4
Round 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, then sc in the next chain st. Make 2sc in the back of the last chain st, sc in the back loop of the previous chain st you crocheted into, then make 2sc in the back loop of the first chain st you crocheted into (8sc)
Rounds 2 – 3: (2 rounds) sc in each st
Round 4: sc2, sc2tog, sc2, sc2tog (6sc)
Rounds 5 – 14: (10 rounds) sc in each st
Fasten off

Insert a length of wire into this section to help it keep its shape, then sew it to the smaller end of the guitar

For the fretboard:
With black ch3
Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, sc in the next chain st. ch1, turn (2sc)
Rows 2 – 11: (10 rows) sc in both sts. Ch1, turn
Row 12: sc in both sts
Fasten off
Sew this to the neck of the guitar

For the tuners (make 6):
with black make a magic loop with 1sc
Fasten off
Sew these to the end of the neck of the guitar


For the sound hole:
With black make a magic loop with 6sc

Fasten off
sew this to the centre of the body of the guitar

For the bridge:
with black ch4
Fasten off
Sew this to the guitar


For the Strap:
With black ch3

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, sc in the next chain st. ch1, turn (2sc)
Rows 2 – 19: (18 rows) sc in both sts. Ch1, turn
Row 20: sc in both sts
Fasten off
 
Sew to the guitar


For the strings:
For each string take a length of white sewing cotton, and sew one else to the bit you attach the strings to, and the other end to one of the knobbly bits make sure you pull it taught as you do this.
