Female Astronaut

This little astronaut is designed to go alongside the rocket pattern I have designed, which will be published soon. This pattern includes her spacesuit and another dress designed to fit her. I have also created a pattern for a robot dog to keep her company, the pattern for which can be found here.

Difficulty:

The next step is to insert wire into the arms and legs to allow them to be moved around. First you need to bend a length of wire to the correct length for the legs. This is shown in teh image below. Make sure that the sections for the feet are the correct length.

You should then insert this wire in through the crotch into the legs and feet. You should then secure it in place with a few small stitches along the legs and in the feet.

After this you should be a very similar process for the arms, making sure the wire is the correct length and then inserting it through the neck and into the arms. Secure with stitches in the arms and hands.

You then need to sew in all the loose ends and stuff the body, as shown below.

For the ears (make 2):
ch3
Row 1: Make 2sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, then make 2sc in the next chain sts (4sc)
Fasten off
Sew to the sides of the head

For the nose:
Make a magic loop with 1sc. ch1, turn
Row 1: make 2sc int his st. ch1, turn
Row 2: make 2sc in each of these 2sts (4sc)
Fasten off
Sew this to the middle of the face

For the eyes:
Use brown thread to create the eye sockets by making stitches through the head either side of the nose and pulling them tight.
Next use white embroidery thread to sew the whites of the eyes in place. Use brown embroidery thread to add the irises over the top of this, before finally adding the pupils.

You should then use black embroidery thread to add the eyebrows just above the eyes

Sew the head to the body.

For the hair:
Using a 1mm crochet hook and black #8 crochet cotton crochet a rectangle approx. 10x8cm

Soak this in a bowl of hot water, then leave out overnight to dry off.

Unravel this and cut it up into 3cm long strips (I roughly measured this against the end of my index finger)

Attach each of these strips to the head. This can be done by folding each strand in half, then putting the folded end through a stitch int he head, threading the other end through the loop created, and pulling tight, as shown in the images below.

For the dress:
Using a 0.8mm hook and 2 strands of orange embroidery thread ch21
Round 1: sc in the first chain st you made, then sc in every following chain st to make a loop (21sc)

Row 30: hdc8, slip9, hdc8

Row 7: sc2tog, sc3tog, sc2tog. ch1, turn (3sts)

Sew to the armholes

You then need to embroider the flowers onto the dress. There are done in embroidery thread. Embroider a small circle using backstitch where you intent to centre the flower, then create the petals by creating a loop of thread (by placing your needle in the same place as where it cam out and not pulling tight) and securing it at the edge of where you want the petal to be (see image below).

For the spacesuit:
Use a 1mm hook and #10 crochet cotton unless otherwise specified
