This dog was made for the rocket I have been working on, to keep the astronaut I made company (pattern coming soon!). However he can also be made as a stand-alone pattern if you prefer! His name is Winston, and he's based off of K-9 from Doctor Who.
Easy - medium
You will need:
- A 1mm crochet hook
- #10 crochet cotton in grey and black
- A scrap of white sewing cotton.
- toy stuffing
- A darning needle
- A regular sewing needle
For the body:
Make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: make 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: (sc, make 2sc in the next st) 6 times (18sc)
Round 3: (sc2, make 2sc in the next st) 6 times (24sc)
Rounds 4 - 9: (6 rounds) sc in each st
Round 10: (sc6, sc2tog) 3 times (21sc)
Round 11: (sc5, sc2tog) 3 times (18sc)
Rounds 12 - 13: (2 rounds) sc in each st
Round 14: (sc5, make 2sc in the next st) 3 times (21sc)
Round 15: (sc6, make 2sc in the next st) 3 times (24sc)
Rounds 16 - 19: (4 rounds) sc in each st
Round 20: (sc5, sc2tog) 3 times (18sc)
Round 21: (sc, sc2tog) 6 times (12sc)

For the neck:

Round 1: sc in the first chain st you made, then sc in every following chain st to make a loop (10sc)

Sew this to the body
For the head:
Make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: make 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: (sc, make 2sc in the next st) 6 times (18sc)

Rounds 4 - 8: (5 rounds) sc in each st
Round 9: (Sc2, sc2tog) 5 times, sc4 (19sc)
Round 10: (Sc, sc2tog) 5 times, sc4 (14sc)
Rounds 11 - 15: (5 rounds) Sc in each st
Round 12: (Sc, sc2tog) 4 times, sc2 (10sc)
Stuff fimly
Round 13: Sc2tog 5 times (5sc)
Fasten off

Sew this to the end of the neck
For the upper part of the leg (make 4):
Ch3
Round 1: sc in the 2nd st from hook, make 3sc in the first chain st you made, then make 2sc in the back of the previous chain st you crocheted into (6sc)
Round 2: (sc, make 2sc in the next st) 3 times (9sc)
Rounds 3 - 7: (5 rounds) sc in each st
Stuff firmly
Round 8: (Sc, sc2tog) 3 times (6sc)
Fasten off
Round 8: (Sc, sc2tog) 3 times (6sc)

For the lower part of the leg (make 4):
make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: make 2sc in each st (12sc)
Rounds 2 - 6: (5 rounds) sc in each st
Round 7: Slip5, sc, hdc5, sc
Round 8: (Sc2, sc2tog) 3 times (9sc)
Round 9: Sc in each st
Stuff firmly
Round 10: (Sc4, sc2tog) 3 times(6sc)
Fasten off
Round 10: (Sc4, sc2tog) 3 times(6sc)
Fasten off
Sew these to the bottom of the upper parts of the legs, then sew the legs to the body
For the ears (make 2):
Ch5
Round 1: sc in the 2nd chain st from hook, sc in the following 2 chain sts, then make 3sc in the first chain st you made. Sc in the back of the previous 2 chain sts you crocheted into in turn, then make 2sc in the back of the first chain st you crocheted into (10sc)
Rounds 2 - 3: (2 rounds) Sc in each st
Round 4: (this is slightly more than 1 round) Sc4, sc2tog, sc3, sc2tog (8sc)
Round 5: Sc in each st
Round 6: Sc2, sc2tog, sc2, sc2tog (6sc)
Round 7: Sc in each st
Fasten off
Press flat and sew to the sides of the head
For the tail:
Ch8
Sc in each st
Sc2tog on each round until you have 4sts
Hdc, sc3
Fasten off
Sc in each st
Sc2tog on each round until you have 4sts
Hdc, sc3
Fasten off
Stuff this lightly and sew to the body
For the face:
Use black crochet cotton to embroider the eyes, nose, and mouth, then add highlights to the eyes using white sewing thread.
