This little Tom Baker from Doctor Who is made using the same basic pattern as the animals in my Little Animals collection, meaning that the clothes will fit any of the patterns from that collection.
Diffculty:
Medium
You will need:
- A 2.5mm crochet hook
- A 2mm crochet hook
- dk yarn in beige and dark brown
- 4ply yarn in black, white, grey, dark red, purple, cream, brown, yellow, dark green, and red
- embroidery thread in dark brown, black, and blue-grey
- Either 6 small white buttons or sheet of thick transparent plastic (I used some leftover packaging)
- White thread and a regular sewing needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- A darning needle
- A pair of scissors
- Some hot water
Note:
This pattern includes the back-to-front single crochet stitch (bfsc). A video to show you how to do this can be found here. It's pretty simple but if you can't work it out you can just use a regular single crochet stitch, but this will give it a slightly different look.

Boil a kettle full of hot water, place the hair section in a bowl and cover with the water. Remove and leave in a warm place overnight to dry off.
Once this is dry, unravel it and cut it into 5cm (ish) long strips. Attach these all over the head. This can be done by folding each strand in half, pulling the looped end through a stitch in the head using your crochet hook ,and then threading the free yarn ends through this loop, and pulling tight. If you are still unsure of what I made, a photo tutorial can be found in the hair section of this pattern
For the eyes:
Before you add the eyes you need to create eye sockets in the head. Do this by making a small stitch using beige yarn and pulling tight. This should create a small hollow. Continue doing this until you are happy with the shape and size of the socket.
Sew the whites of the eye using white embroidery thread, as shown below. Use blueish-grey thread to embroider the irises over the top, then add the pupils using black embroidery thread.
Sew the eyebrows above the eye using dark brown embroidery thread. I find the best effect is achieved by using a single strand and filling them in using lots of small stitches.

Sew the shoulder seams together.
You now need to add the stripes using dark red and dark green yarn.
Start using dark red yarn and making the horizontal stripes.. You should make a large red stripe by sewing 4/5 lines of yarn next to each other, leave a small gap, sew a single line, leave another gap, sew another line, leave another gap, then repeat with the large stripe. This can be seen in the image below.
You should now add the green horizontal stripes in between the two individual red lines, as shown below.
Finally the horizontal red stripes are added in between the single green vertical stripes (just like the horizontal green ones)
