Spider man bunny

This is a costume made to fit the dress me bunny by Sharon Ojala at amigurumi to go. You will need to make the bunny before you go on to make the costume, but for the minute don't attach the arms, ears or tail. The pattern can be found here, and you can also find some other outfits for your bunny.

Difficulty:

Medium

You will need:

  • Crochet hook the same size as the one you used for the bunny (I used a 3mm one)
  • The same weight yarn (I used double knitting) as you used for the bunny in red, blue and black
  • A darning needle for sewing up

Sew this onto the jacket, as in the picture below
The small red bits should go over the arm holes
Embroider the web on like you did above

Then add a spider motif to the centre front. I don't have a very good picture of mine (and it was rushed as I was trying to finish it to give to my cousin for Easter) but it should look kind of like this:

Sew two sets of poppers onto the back of the jacket to fasten it.

Please feel free to comment below if you're unsure about anything, or if you think something might be wrong. This pattern might be a bit difficult to follow in places sorry about that!

Please don't re-post this pattern or claim it as your own. Personally I don't mind if you sell the finished product but technically you're not meant to as Spider-man is copyrighted. It's entirely up to you.

I hope you like the new layout of my blog and I have some exciting news! Firstly I now have a new blog, which I've been quite busy with which is why I haven't posted much on here for quite a while. You can find it here, I would love if you could check it out. I also have a facebook page, where you can post anything you've made from either of my two blogs, or really anything crafty you've made - I'd really like to see them.

Flowers for Mum

Happy Mothers day to all those mums out there! To celebrate I decided to make my mum a vase of crocheted flowers.

Difficulty:

Easy - Medium

You will need:
  • dk yarn in green, yellow, white and blue (the blue is for the vase so this can be whatever colour you want it to be)
  • cotton 4ply yarn in red and white
  • A darning needle
  • 2mm crochet hook
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • 3.5mm crochet hook (E)
  • 2 green pipe-cleaners
  • craft wire

If you don't have all of the right sized crochet hooks you can just use the 3mm one for all of it but I like the way it looks with the different sized hooks.

For the roses:
I used this pattern:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/roses-8
and made one white and one red using the cotton yarn and 3mm hook. I would recommend making them quite a bit shorter with less leaves as the top bit is very heavy so they tend to droop a lot. Also they are too tall to fit in the vase so I had to curl the around to get them in

For the daisies:

I used this pattern:
http://beacrafter.com/crochet-daisy-applique/
with the dk yarn and the 2.5mm hook and make 2 small ones. For the stem I made an i-cord (If you don't know how to make them watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zVEObLX2qY) and  threaded a piece of wire through before sewing up the ends and attaching it to the back of the daisy. It doesn't really matter how long you make the stem but mine were about 12 cm long.

For the daffodil:
I used this pattern:
http://www.simplycrochetmag.co.uk/2015/03/05/free-pattern-crochet-daffodils-mothers-day/
with the dk yarn but this time with the 2mm hook. The stalk was made in exactly the same way as the daisy's stalks were.

For the vase:
Using the blue dk yarn and the 3mm hook make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in the 1st st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (18sc)
Round 3: sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (24sc)
Round 4: sc in the first 3 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (30sc)
Round 5: sc in the first 4 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (36sc)
Round 6: sc in the first 5 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (42sc)
Round 7: sc in the first 6 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (48sc)
Round 8: sc in the first 7 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (54sc)
Round 9: sc in the first 8 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (60sc)
Rounds 10-14: (5 rounds) sc in each st (60sc)
Round 15: sc in the first 13 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (56sc)
Round 16: sc in the first 12 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (52sc)
Round 17: sc in the first 11 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (48sc)
Round 18: sc in the first 10 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (44sc)
Round 19: sc in the first 9 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (40sc)
Round 20: sc in the first 8 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (36sc)
Round 21: sc in the first 7 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (32sc)
Round 22: sc in the first 6 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (28sc)
Round 23: sc in the first 5 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (24sc)
Round 24: sc in the first 4 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (20sc)
Rounds 25-30: (6 rounds) sc in each st (20sc)
ss and fasten off.

Weave the yarn tails in and arrange the flowers in the vase. Stuff lightly to give the vase more shape. After you are happy with how it looks embroider the letters onto the front of the vase. You can do this before  you put the flowers in and stuff it but I find it easier to do it afterwards, though you need to be careful and make sure that you're not sewing through the flower stems as well.

You are permitted to sell finished items but I do ask that you don't re-post this pattern or claim it as your own. Also please could you not republish these photos as your own. Thank you!

Stegosaurus hat

The idea for this design was born when I tried to make a dragon hat. After finishing it I realised that not only was I not allowed to sell it at the craft fair I'm doing soon due to copyright, it also it bore an extreme likeness to a chicken. I then decided to take all of the copyrighted bits off the hat and change it into my own design.

(again, sorry about the terrible picture quality - I promise it does look slightly less brown in real life)

Difficulty:

Medium

You will need:
  • 5mm (H) crochet hook
  • Red and orange aran/ worsted weight yarn
  • A darning needle for sewing
  • Black yarn for the eyes

Make hat in orange with 19 sts in between the back of the two ear flaps. The pattern for the hat, which is available in sizes ranging from newborn to adult, can be found by following the link below. As I've only made this hat to fit a toddler/ pre-schooler,, I'm not sure that this size gap will work on all of the hats. If it doesn't you can alter the size of the gap and decrease in the same way as I have written below, decreasing a stitch at each end of every alternate row until you have 2 or 3 sts left, then sc2tog or sc3tog.

When making ear flaps instead of sc2tog when you reach 2 sts, sc in these two sts and then sc2tog. This makes it pointier.

To make tail:
Hold hat upside down and with the back side (the side with 19 sts in between the earflaps) facing you and ss into the st on the right.
Row 1: Ch1 so that there are two chains in total and dc into the same st
Row 2: Dc into the next 18 sts, ch2 turn (19 dc)
Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 15, dc2tog, ch2, turn (17 dc)
Row 3: Dc in each st
Row 4: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 13, dc2tog, ch2, turn (15 dc)
Row 5: Dc in each st
Row 6: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 11, dc2tog, ch2, turn (13 dc)
Row 7: Dc in each st
Row 8: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 9, dc2tog, ch2, turn (11 dc)
Row 9: Dc in each st
Row 10: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 7, dc2tog, ch2, turn (9 dc)
Row 11:Dc in each st
Row 12: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 5, dc2tog, ch2, turn (7 dc)
Row 13: Dc in each st
Row 14: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 3, dc2tog, ch2, turn (5 dc)
Row 16: Dc in each st
Row 17: Dc2tog between the same st and the next st, dc 1, dc2tog, ch2, turn (3 dc)
Row 18: Dc in each st
Row 19: Dc3tog
Fasten off and weave in yarn tails.

For the head:
Magic ring ch2, 7dc in ring, ss into 1st dc
Ch2, 2dc in same sts, 2dc in each st, ss int 1st dc
Ch2, dc into same st, dc into each st, ss into 1st dc
Ch2, (dc into same st, 2dc into next st) rep to end, ss into 1st dc
Ch2, dc into same st, dc into each st, ss into 1st dc
Ch2, (dc into next 2 sts, 2dc into next st) rep to end, ss into 1st dc
Ch2, dc into same st, dc into each st, ss into 1st dc
Repeat last row

For the spikes:
There are six different sized spikes, listed in order of size, plus the tail spike.

Spike 1(make 2):
Ch5
Row 1: Sc in 2nd st from hook, sc to end, ch1, turn
Row 2: 2sc in 1st st, sc to last st, 2sc, ch1, turn (6sc)
Row 3: Sc in each st, ch1, turn
Row 4: 2sc in 1st st, sc to last st, 2sc, ch1, turn (8sc)
Row 5: Sc2tog, sc to last 2 sts, sc2tog (6sc)
Row 6: Sc2tog, sc to last 2 sts, sc2tog (4sc)
Row 7: Sc2tog twice (2sc)

Using red Ch 4
Row 1: Sc in 2nd st from hook, sc to end, ch1, turn (3sc)
Row 2: 2sc in 1st st, sc to last st, 2sc, ch1, turn (5sc)

Row 4: Sc2tog, sc to last 2 sts, sc2tog (4sc)
Row 5: Sc2tog, sc, sc2tog (2sc)
Row 6: Sc2tog (1sc)
Fasten off

Spike 4 (make 6):
Make a magic loop/ adjustable ring then (dc, hdc) 5 times into the ring
Ss into the 1st dc
Fasten off

Spike 5 (make 4):
Make a magic loop/ adjustable ring then (hdc, sc) 5 times into the ring
Ss into the 1st hdc
Fasten off

Spike 6(make 8):
Make a magic loop/ adjustable ring then (sc, ss) 5 times into the ring
Ss into the 1st sc
Fasten off

Tail spike (make 4):
Using red Ch6, ss into 1st ch
Rounds 1-3: (4 rounds) Sc in each st (6sc)
Round 4: Sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts (5sc)
Round 5: Sc in each st (5sc)
Round 6: Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts (4sc)
Round 7: Sc in each st (4sc)
Round 8: Sc2tog (3sc)
Fasten off and thread the yarn back through the remaining sts, pull tight and seccure.

For the legs:
Using orange yarn ch7
Row 1: dc in 2nd st from hook, dc in the next 5 sts, ch1, turn (6dc)
Rows 2-7: (6 rows) dc in each st, ch1, turn for 7 rows.
You can make the legs longer or shorter if you want by changing how many rows you add in between rows 2 and 7.

For the feet:
With red yarn make a magic ring with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each
Round 2: sc in 1st st, 2sc in next st
Round 3: sc in each st
Round 4: (sc2tog, sc) twice, sc in the next 10 sts
Round 5: sc2tog 3 times, sc in the next 10 sts
Round 6: sc3tog, sc in the next 10 sts
Round 7: (sc, sc2tog) to end
Fasten off

To make up:
sew the long sides of all of the leg pieces together and then stuff and sew the feet on underneath. Sew the head to the hat on the opposite side to the tail. Line up the spikes on top of the hat in pairs, with the largest two in the centre, where you made the magic loop on the hat, and then gradually getting smaller as they get further away from the centre. The order of the spikes in their pairs from the end of the tail to the tip of the head should be spike number:

6,6,6,5,5,4,4,3,3,2,1,2,3,4,6

(I hope that makes sense if not comment below and I'll post a diagram to show)

When sewing them on thread the yarn tail of the first three sized spikes through the fabric to the cast on edge and try to pull it so that it shapes the spike slightly. With the smaller spikes you don't need to do this as the tail will already be at the base but you should turn the spike so that the right side is on the inside of the hat. This will cause it to curve inwards slightly.

You are permitted to sell finished items but I do ask that you don't re-post this pattern or claim it as your own. Also please could you not republish these photos as your own, though I'm not sure why you would want to.

Triceratops security blanket

This design was inspired by another one that I really wanted to make but couldn't afford to buy online. I just wanted to say that this is not my idea. You can find the original pattern (which is better) here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/151447261/triceratops-lovey-pdf-crochet-pattern?ref=sr_gallery_19&ga_search_query=crochet&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=5&ga_search_type=all
However, I have decided to make it up myself and post it here. If anyone thinks that this counts as theft or is a violation of copyright please tell me and I will take it down. As I'm pretty new to blogging I don't know what's allowed and what's not but I really wanted to post this pattern because it's one of my favourites.

Difficulty:

Easy - Medium

Materials:

  • green and white aran/ worsted weight yarn
  • embroidery needle for sewing up
  • Cream aran/ worsted weight yarn
  • Black yarn for the eyes (alternatively you could use beads but this isn't so safe if you plan to give the blanket to small children

For the blanket:
Using white yarn make a magic loop with 12dc, (change to green yarn) join with a ss into the 1st dc and ch2
Round 1: 2dc in each st, (change to white yarn) ss to 1st dc, ch2 (24dc)

Secure loose ends and weave them in, taking care to hide them as best as you can into the fabric.

For the head:
With green make a magic ring with 4 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (8sc)
Round 2: Sc in each st (8sc)
Round 3: 1sc  in the first st then 2sc in the next st (12sc)
