Sheep hat

This hat is slightly more complicated than the bear one, mainly because it uses a fluffy yarn that means that it's very difficult to see the stitches. I sort of just guessed where they were so the hat ended up a bit small but I don't think it really mattered too much.

Difficulty:

Medium

Materials:

  • 5mm (H) crochet hook
  • fluffy white chunky/ aran/ worsted weight yarn (I used chunky which worked fine but ideally aran or worsted weight would be better)
  • cream/ grey aran (or whatever colour you want to use for the head and legs of the sheep)
  • darning needle to sew up
  • black and white yarn (I used a chunky black and the white was dk but this was just what I had to hand so I think aran or worsted weight yarn would be better.)+

Make the hat using the fluffy white yarn - the pattern can be found here:

For the head:
With cream yarn make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in 1st st, 2sc in next st, rep to end (18sc)
Round 3: sc in first 2 sts, 2sc in next st, rep to end (24sc)
Round 4: sc in first 3 sts, 2sc in next st, rep to end (30sc)
Round 5: sc in first 4 sts, 2sc in next st, rep to end (36sc)
Rounds 6-10: (5 rounds) sc in each st (36sc)
Round 11: sc in first 4 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (30sc)
Round 12: sc in first 3 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (24sc)
Ss and fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew onto front of hat.

For the legs (make 4):
With cream yarn make a magic loop with 8 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (16sc)
Rounds 2-11: (10 rounds) sc in each st (16sc)
Ss and fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew onto the hat.

Stuff the legs and head and sew them on, referring to the picture if necessary.
If you want the head to be straight you might want to pin it on first to avoid it slipping around.

For the top of the head:
With fluffy white yarn make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 2: sc in 1st st, 2sc in next st, rep to end (18sc)
Round 3: sc in first 2 sts, 2sc in next st, rep to end (24sc)
Round 4: sc in first 3 sts, 2sc in next st, rep to end (30sc)
Ss and fasten off, use the yarn tail to sew it onto the top of the head

For the ears (make 2):
Using cream yarn ch 5
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd st from the hook, sc to end, ch1, turn (4sc)
Rows 2-3: (2 rows) Sc in each st, ch1, turn (4sc)
Row 4: sc2tog twice (2sc)
Row 5: sc in each st (2sc)
Row 6: sc2tog (1sc)
Fasten off, leaving a loose end. Weave in the short yarn tail at the base of the ear.  Thread the other length of yarn onto a needle and weave it back trough the fabric to the bottom and use this to sew the ear to the head, either side of where you sewed on the top of the head

Finally you need to embroider the eyes on using the black and white thread, referring to the photo if necessary.

You are permitted to sell finished items but I do ask that you don't re-post this pattern or claim it as your own. Also please could you not republish these photos as your own(not that you'd really want to as they're pretty bad quality).
