Lesbian bear

This little bear was made as part of a series of patterns for pride month. If you'd lake to see more of these you can view all of my pride month creations by clicking on the LGBTQ+ label in the right-hand column beside this pattern.
This pattern is designed to fit any of the animals in my little animals collection. The boots are made in the colours of the lesbian flag (the five stripe flag, not the lipstick lesbian one), but can be altered to whatever colours you like.

Difficulty:
Easy - medium

You will need:
  • A little bear (pattern can be found here)
  • A 2mm crochet hook
  • 4ply yarn in grey, purple, light purple, white, tan, and dark red
  • dk yarn in black
  • black crochet cotton (around #10 weight)
  • Embroidery thread in black and yellow
  • A darning needle
  • An embroidery needle
  • Three 5mm black buttons

Note:
  • 'fasten off neatly' refers to a special way of fastening off which is neater and makes it easier to see where you should be crocheting on the next round (also known as invisible fastening off). This involves pulling up your yarn through your stitch, threading the yarn underneath the second stitch from where you pulled your yarn up, then threading your yarn back through the top of this stitch and down through the back of the work. There is a very helpful site that explains it clearly found here. Just make sure when you do this that you thread your needle through the SECOND stitch after the last stitch you made, otherwise you will end up with an extra stitch which may mean that all of the following rounds are out of line with each other.
  • This pattern includes the foundation single crochet stitch (fsc). A handy website showing you how to make this stitch can be found here, then there is also a video here that's good as well.
  • This pattern includes the back-to-front single crochet stitch (bfsc). A video to show you how to do this can be found here. It's pretty simple but if you can't work it out you can just use a regular single crochet stitch, but this will give it a slightly different look.

Take 2 strands of black embroidery thread and use this to sew three lines of stitching to the sides of the boot, attaching the two colourful sections together as you do so. You also need to sew a line of stitching up the side of the 2nd black section you made. This can be seen in the images below.

Next use 3 strands of yellow embroidery thread to embroider around the edge of the sole of the shoe, just above the little ridge made by crocheting into the back loop of each st on row 5.

Finally this you should cut a strand of black crochet cotton and use it to lace up the shoes, before securing them to the foot of your bear.
