Adam Rutherford and Hannah Fry are the mathematician/ scienctist behind the podcast 'The Curious cases of Rutherford and Fry', in which they use science to solve questions submitted by listeners (would highly recommend). I enjoyed this podcast so much that I decided to make Adam and Hannah out of crochet, and post the pattern here so that you can too!
Difficulty:
Medium
You will need:
- A 2mm crochet hook
- A 2.5mm crochet hook
- A 0.6mm crochet hook
- Dk yarn in peach, light brown, ginger, and dark brown
- 4ply yarn in black and dark blue
- Embroidery thread in white, black, brown, light blue, pink, green, purple, yellow, gold, and cream
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Cardboard
- A pet brush
- An embroidery needle
- A darning needle
Note:
- This pattern includes the back-to-front single crochet stitch (bfsc). A video to show you how to do this can be found here. It's pretty simple but if you can't work it out you can just use a regular single crochet stitch, but this will give it a slightly different look.

For the hair:
Cut a strip of cardboard 9cm long and wind orange yarn around it many times. Cut along one end so that you're left with a large number of 18cm long strands. Attach these to the head by folding each length in half and using a crochet hook to pull the looped end through a stitch in the head. Thread the free end through and pull tight (a more detailed explanation of how to do this can be found on my David Bowie pattern).
Use a pet brush to brush the hair until it's smooth. You may also wish to smooth it further by filling up a bowl of boiling water and dipping the hair into it (when it drys it'll be a lot less fluffy)
For the eyes:
Embroider the whites of the eyes with white embroidery thread, then add the irises in blue. Finally use black thread to add the pupils. Outline with black embroidery thread.
Add the eyebrows using a single strand of orange embroidery thread
