Pokemon - Umbreon

This is the 2nd in a series of pokemon characters that I plan to make The first can be found here

You will need:


  • 3mm crochet hook
  • dk yarn in black, yellow, red and white
  • Toy stuffing
  • A darning needle




For the head:
make a magic loop with 4sc 
Round 1: 2sc in each st (4sc)
Round 2: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st (6sc)
Round 3: sc in each st to end (6sc)
Round 4:2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 5: sc in the first 6 sts, 2sc in the last 6 sts (18sc)
Round 6: sc in the first 6 sts, (sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st) rep 6 times to end (24sc)
Round 7: sc in the first 3 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (30sc)
Round 8: sc in the first 4 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (36sc)
Rounds 9 - 14: (6 rows) sc in each st (36sc)
Round 15: sc in the first 4 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (30sc)
Round 16: sc in the first 3 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (24sc)
Round 17: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (18sc)
Round 18: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (12sc)
Round 19: sc2tog to end (6sc)
Fasten off

For the neck:
With black fsc 27
sc in each st
sc in the first 7 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (24sc)
sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (18sc)

For the body:
Round 1: make a magic loop with 6sc
Round 2: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Round 3: sc in the first sc, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (18sc)
Round 4: sc in the first 2 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (24sc)
Round 5: sc in the first 3 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (30sc)
Rounds 6 - 10: (5 rows) sc in each st
Round 11: sc in the first 3 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (24sc)
Rounds 12 - 17: (6 rows) sc in each st (24sc)
Round 18: sc in the first 3 sts, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (30sc)
Rounds 19 - 23: (5 rows) sc in each st
Round 24: sc in the first 3 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (24sc)
Round 25: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (18sc)
Round 26: sc in the first st, sc2tog, rep to end (12sc)
Round 27: sc2tog to end (6sc)

Sew the larger edge of the neck onto the body and the thinner end onto the bottom of the head

For the eyes (make 2):
With red make a magic loop with 2sc. Do not join. Instead ch1, turn
Row 1: 2sc, sc. ch1, turn (3sc)
Row 2: sc in each st. ch1, turn (3sc)
Row 3: sc2tog, 2sc. ch1, turn (2sc)
Row 4: sc2tog. ch1, turn (1sc)
Fasten off

With black ch2
Round 1: sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 3sc in the next ch, 2sc in the other side of the first ch you crocheted into (6sc)
Fasten off

Sew this black section into the centre of the red section, then use the white thread to embroider a highlight onto the eye. Sew one eye onto each side of the head.


For the ears:
Make a magic loop with 4 sc
Round 1: sc in each st (4sc)
Round 2: 2sc in each st (8sc)
Round 3: sc in each st (8sc)
change to yellow
Round 4: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (12sc)
Round 5: sc in each st (12sc)
Change to black,
Round 6: sc in each st (12sc)
Round 7: sc in first st, sc2tog, rep to end (8sc)
Round 8: sc in each st
Round 9: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (6sc)
Fasten off

Sew the ears onto the head.

For the tail:
Make a magic loop with 4 sc
Round 1: sc in each st (4sc)
Round 2: 2sc in each st (8sc)
Round 3: sc in each st (8sc)
Round 4: sc in the first st, 2sc in the next st, rep to end (12sc)
Change to yellow
Rounds 5 - 6: (2 rounds) sc in each st (12sc)
Change to black
Round 7: sc in each st (12sc)
Round 8: sc in first st, sc2tog, rep to end (8sc)
Round 9: sc in each st
Round 10: sc in the first 2 sts, sc2tog, rep to end (6sc)
Round 11: sc in each st (6sc)
Fasten off
Sew the tail onto the end of the body


For the left back leg:
With black make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Rounds 2 - 4: (3 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 5 - 6: (2 rows) slip the first 6 sts sc in the next 6 sts
Rounds 7 - 9: (3 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 10 - 11: (2 rows) slip the first 6 sts sc in the next 6 sts
Rounds 12 - 14: (3 rows) sc in each st
Round 15: sc into the first st, 2sc into the next st (18sc)
Round 16: sc into the first 2 sts, 2sc into the next st (24sc)
Round 17: slip 12 sts sc in the next 4 sts 2sc in the next 3 sts sc in the next 5 sts
Round 18: slip 12 sts sc in the next 4 sts (sc in the first st 2sc in the next st) 3 times sc in the next 5 sts
Round 19: slip 12 sts sc in the next 4 sts (sc in the first 2 sts 2sc in the next st) 3 times sc in the next 5 sts
Round 20: slip 12 sts sc in the next 4 sts (sc in the first 3 sts 2sc in the next st) 3 times sc in the next 5 sts

For the right back leg:
With black make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Rounds 2 - 4: (3 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 5 - 6: (2 rows) slip the first 6 sts sc in the next 6 sts
Rounds 7 - 9: (3 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 10 - 11: (2 rows) slip the first 6 sts sc in the next 6 sts
Rounds 12 - 14: (3 rows) sc in each st
Round 15: sc into the first st, 2sc into the next st (18sc)
Round 16: sc into the first 2 sts, 2sc into the next st (24sc)
Round 17: sc in the first 4 sts 2sc in the next 3 sts sc in the next 5 sts, slip the last 12 sts
Round 18: sc in the first 4 sts (sc in the first st 2sc in the next st) 3 times sc in the next 5 sts, slip the last 12 sts
Round 19: sc in the first 4 sts (sc in the first 2 sts 2sc in the next st) 3 times sc in the next 5 sts, slip the last 12 sts
Round 20: sc in the first 4 sts (sc in the first 3 sts 2sc in the next st) 3 times sc in the next 5 sts, slip the last 12 sts

For the front right leg:
With black make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Rounds 2 - 4: (3 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 5 - 7: (3 rows) slip the first 6 sts sc in the next 6 sts
Rounds 8 - 16: (9 rows) sc in each st
Round 17 - 20: (4 rows) slip the first st, sc in the next 6 sts, slip the last 5 sts
Fasten off


For the front left leg:
With black make a magic loop with 6 sc
Round 1: 2sc in each st (12sc)
Rounds 2 - 4: (3 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 5 - 7: (3 rows) slip the first 6 sts sc in the next 6 sts
Rounds 8 - 16: (9 rows) sc in each st
Rounds 17 - 20: (4 rows) sc in the first st, slip the next 6 sts, sc in the last 5 sts
Sc in the next st and fasten off

Stuff and sew the legs to the body using mattress stitch

For the rings (Make 5):
With yellow ch10 ss into first ch st and ch1 


Round 1: 2sc into the first 3 sts, sc into the next 2 sts, 2sc into the next 3 sts, sc into the last 2 sts. ss into first st (10sc)
Fasten off

Sew the one of the rings onto the head of the pokemon, and one onto the top of each of the legs
